The Boss: Song a Top-Class Player

From Arsenal.com - Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said:

"Experience-wise we are a bit short in midfield but we will see. With Diaby not being injured, Denilson being available, we have quality in there. Today we did not have Rosicky, Fabregas, Eduardo, van Persie and Song. They are five top-class players."

They were comments made after Arsenal's 1-0 pre-season home defeat to Juventus's off-side goal from Trezeguet.

That's Alexandre Song, the Arsenal central defender and Cameroon holding midfielder. Song spent a season on loan to Charlton. He's been booed off the pitch by Arsenal fans protesting that Cesc was on the bench. But playing for Cameroon, he looks more confident, and he looks good enough to play for Arsenal.

After Song was booed off the pitch, Arsene Wenger gave the supporters a dirty look, but he changed Song's playing position to Central Defense. In a couple late-season performances there, he got positive reviews on Wicked Deflection.

Now Arsene Wenger has grouped him with: 1. Rosicky, 2. Fabregas, 3. Eduardo, and 4. van Persie, making a group of 5, including Alex Song, himself, who Arsene Wenger is describing as "Top class."

These comments frome Arsene Wenger will throw kerosene on the inferno that is the feverish anticipation for Football at the Olympics.

Spurs won their first hardware of the 08/09 campaign today. With their improved keeping and aggressive, fluid play, they look like a surefire Top Four finisher this year. I would be interested in predictions for the Top 5 finishers from my fellow Wicked D intellegentsia. I am still trying to determine if Arsenal or the Hammers will be number 5.
